Will insurance cover a breast reduction in Maryland?

Will insurance cover a breast reduction? Many of my readers ask me this question. Not all insurance companies have the same policy and they differ from state to state. So you will need to check with your insurance provider.

If your breasts are of a certain size and you are having pain and other medical issues you may qualify. It's best to talk to your doctor and discuss the specific concerns you have. You and your doctor can then decide which, if any, of those concerns can be alleviated without breast reduction surgery. If non surgical treatments dont help, you should begin your search for a breast reduction surgeon.

In the coming weeks and months, I will research and post what I find so that you dont have to do as much work searching. You can focus your attention on choosing the breast reduction surgeon who is best for you.

Solutions for Physical Discomfort Due to Heavy Large Breasts - Plus Size Bras and more!

Before you seek a breast reduction it's a good idea to make sure you are doing it for medical reasons. Breast reduction surgery is a major procedure.

Common Solutions for Physical Discomfort Due to Heavy Large Breasts:

1. Back Pain - This can be relieved by wearing the proper fitting plus size bra. 80% of all women wear the wrong size bra. 95% of women above a DDD wear the wrong plus size bra. As you probably know, most stores only go up to a DDD. In reality, cup sizes go up to "N". Get a professional bra fitting, it will make a huge world of difference.

2. Shoulder Indentation - If your bra strap is digging in to your shoulders there is a solution. These silicone bra strap shoulder pads are very helpful.

3. Shoulder / Back cramps - There are exercises that can be done to help with muscle spasms due to the weight of heavy breasts.  I will highlight these in a future blog post.

Breast Reduction Procedure

Any surgery has some risks. Most of the risks associated with breast reduction surgery lie in the normal chance you take when getting put to sleep. This risk is very minimal. For those with a weak stomach, here is a link to a illustrated version of the basic breast reduction technique.
